[Decision guide]
What this article will help you decide
project manager, facility team, IT and HR
link the number of seats, layout, electrical, storage and the possibility of team growth
do not approve dimensions separately from the plan: check aisles, chairs in working position, sockets and cable routes
Why can't you start with one number?
The area of the table is not equal to the area of the workplace. We need a chair area, approach to the table, opening of the cabinet, general routes, access to cabinets and utility points. In the meeting room, the moving of chairs is additionally taken into account; in the office there is guest seating.
What to check on the plan
- whether the furniture blocks escape routes and doors;
- whether working passages remain with the chairs extended;
- are electrical panels, ventilation and service hatches accessible?
- can a person with limited mobility use the required areas;
- Do cabinets and high partitions create blind spots?
What documents to use
The official Adilet database and the documents of the Technical Regulation Committee contain current sanitary and construction requirements. Their applicability depends on the type of object and the stage of the project. For example, accessibility standards set requirements for traffic routes, and sanitary rules set requirements for working conditions. The final check must be carried out by the designer responsible for the relevant section.
This article is a practical guide to furniture layout, not a statement on whether a building complies with codes. Before construction and commissioning of a facility, use the current official versions of documents.
Safe working procedure
First, obtain an approved architectural framework and engineering data. Then place the work areas, check the routes in the actual dimensions of the furniture and only after that fix the articles. If you change the size of the table or cabinet, the plan must be checked again.
What does a furniture project check?
In a 2D plan, PoMo shows the arrangement and main dimensions, in 3D - the composition and materials. The team can identify obvious conflicts between furniture and walkways and engineering, but does not replace the architectural designer and fire safety specialists.

Frequently asked questions
How many square meters do you need per employee?
The answer depends on the purpose, equipment, layout and applicable regulations. For a working project, use the calculation of a specific room.
Is it possible to place a table close to the aisle?
Only if, when the chair is in working position, the required route is maintained and doors or engineering elements are not blocked.
Who confirms compliance with standards?
Responsible designers for architecture, fire safety, sanitary requirements and accessibility.
Does PoMo inspect evacuations?
PoMo checks furniture arrangements for obvious conflicts, but does not replace a formal regulatory opinion.
