A full-time chair must fit people of different heights, support changes in posture, and maintain functionality under daily loads. The larger the batch, the more important it is not the external effect of one model, but the clarity of the adjustments, the reliability of the mechanism and the accessible service.
[Decision guide]
What this article will help you decide
HR, labor protection, purchasing and employees who test furniture
create a short list of models depending on the duration of operation, user growth and intensity of use
Do not approve a lot based on a photo: check the adjustments, fit, load capacity, materials and warranty of the specific model
Seven main criteria
1. Seat height
The user should rest their feet on the floor or stand without any pressure under the knees. In a corporate batch, the range of adjustment is more important than a single “average” height.
2. Seat depth
A seat that is too deep interferes with the use of the backrest; a seat that is too short reduces support. Depth adjustment helps one model fit more employees.
3. Back
It should support your back in the working position and during deviation. What is important is not the presence of a decorative lumbar part, but the ability to comfortably maintain contact with the backrest.
4. Armrests
They are useful if they are adjusted to the user and do not interfere with rolling the chair to the table. Fixed armrests that are too high cause you to raise your shoulders.
5. Base and rollers
The crosspiece must be stable, and the rollers must be suitable for the floor covering. On hard floors and carpet, the same roller model behaves differently.
6. Management
Levers and settings should be clear. If an employee cannot quickly adjust the chair, most of the ergonomic features will remain unused.
7. Warranty and details
Find out who services the mechanism, gas lift, rollers and upholstery, whether it is possible to replace a separate part and how the appeal is processed.
What mechanism is needed
For long-term work, a mechanism is useful that consistently changes the angle of the seat and backrest and allows you to move while maintaining support. Resistance adjustment helps adapt the swing to the user's weight. Several fixed positions give you a choice between work and short rest.
Many settings do not always mean the best result. It is important that the range suits the users and that the controls are logical. Sometimes a well-tuned basic mechanism is more useful than a complex one that no one uses.
The chair is evaluated in motion: sit down, adjust, work, recline, stand up and return to the table again.
Mesh, fabric or eco-leather
Net
It allows air to pass through well and looks light visually. Check the bounce, support and edge quality - different mesh backs feel very different.
Textile
Gives a wide choice of colors and is comfortable in everyday work. For the office, wear resistance, ease of care and availability of the same fabric for additional equipment are important.
Eco leather and leather
They are used in representative spaces, but require assessment of the microclimate and care. For intensive planting, check surface stability and warranty conditions.
How to test before purchasing
- Select two or three models within your target budget.
- Ask employees of different heights to set each one up without prompting.
- Check the chair with your desk and tabletop height.
- Check whether the armrests slide under the table.
- Use the seats for a few business days if a pilot is available.
- Collect comments and only then approve the model and finish.
Frequent procurement errors
- choice only by price or photo;
- one model without testing on users of different heights;
- fixed armrests that conflict with the table;
- unsuitable coating rollers;
- lack of instructions for setting up after the seats are issued;
- unclear procedure for warranty repairs.
